The influence of aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont soars over the new version of the
Santos chronograph watch: defying time and seeing beyond. Just like the aviator,
this chronograph channels the pioneering spirit of those who push boundaries with
elegance.
A LEGACY IN MOTION
Revisiting the Santos de Cartier chronograph launched in 2020, the challenge for this watch was to find a design suitable for everyday wear but with a focus on performance. With its enhanced dial and refined size in gold, gold and steel and all- steel versions, this new chronograph optimises the functionality and versatility of
the original model.
The desire to go beyond is inherited from Alberto Santos-Dumont, an insatiable
pioneer who, in 1904, eager to be able to read the time while flying, asked Louis
Cartier to create a watch that would eventually become the first modern wristwatch.
Speed was one of Santos-Dumont’s main concerns. He holds numerous records in
aviation, the most significant of which, a speed-related record, dates back to 1906,
when he covered a distance of 220 metres in 21 seconds.
Designed to measure records, the new Cartier large model chronograph propels this
heritage into the 21st century.
SANTOS DE CARTIER CHRONOGRAPH BETWEEN DESIGN AND TECHNICAL PROWESS, THE SANTOS MECHANICS ARE PUSHED TO THE EXTREME

True to the purity of the Santos watch design, this new chronograph in LM size
(47x40 mm) amplifies its mechanical DNA. It features a dial with alternating satin and sunray finishes, as well as black sword-shaped hands coated with Super-
LumiNova®, a phosphorescent green luminescent material. It also features three counters: the seconds at 6 o'clock, the minutes at 3 o'clock and hours at 9 o'clock, circled by a ring flashed in yellow gold or rhodium, depending on the version.
Readability is maximised and contrasts are enhanced.
The high level of finish was achieved via a process formed of more than 70 steps.
From the stamping of the dial to the application of a final protective layer, decals
establish the logo, rail-track and numerals with the flashed circles surrounding the
counters.
Everything works together to highlight the iconic shape and emblematic codes of
this watch. Designed for high performance, it is framed by eight polished screws and
a heptagonal crown set with a synthetic blue faceted spinel, or with a sapphire for
the gold model.
EXPERTISE AND HIGH STANDARDS AT THE SERVICE OF A MOVEMENT DESIGNED FOR THE EVERYDAY
Powered by the 1904 - CH MC mechanical movement with automatic winding, the
name of which refers to the date the first Santos watch was created, the
chronograph version is the perfect illustration of Cartier's technical expertise in
watchmaking. This chronograph calibre with two push buttons (the first for the
start/stop function and the second for resetting the chronograph) combines
precision, comfort and reliability for everyday use.
The Santos chronograph watch is water-resistant up to 10 bar and offers enhanced
protection against magnetic fields, shocks and temperature variations. After being
subjected to numerous resistance tests to guarantee its long-term durability, it
offers a power reserve of 47 hours.
These standards also apply to the watch bracelet, which is equipped with the
SmartLink™ system, allowing it to be adjusted to size in seconds, as well as
QuickSwitch™, which allows both the supplied strap and bracelet to be
interchanged.
