The Eyes Have it

The year of 2020 will go down in beauty history as the year of the eyes. With Mask wearing an unpleasant reality the eyes are all the focus. Lipsticks and fragrances, not so much.

Aesthetically, there’s a range of non-surgical treatment options for the eyes starting with some medical grade eye creams. Some creams target the dark circles or puffiness and others are overall anti-age focused including elasticity of the eyelids and the “crapey“ beneath the eyes.

Alissa Davis Pace at OVME in Charlotte suggested a microneedling device that includes radiofrequency called the Vivace. Microneedling that improves the texture of the skin and fine lines. Radiofrequency tightens the skin. This is a great procedure for under the eyes (especially the crapey eye patient) and it boasts minimal downtime.

Injectables specifically address lines and can contour the eyes for a more rested look. Generally I start with a neurotoxin (ie-Botox, Dysport) she said, to relax the muscles that pull brows down (chemical brow lift). I also relax the muscle that circles the eye to lessen the appearance of “crows feet” Relaxing this muscle can also make the eyes look more open and alleviate hooded eyelids. Generally the duration is for 3-4 months and takes 3-14 days to kick in post treatment.

Filler can be placed around the eyes to lessen the indentions and in to the tear troughs. Filler is targeting the volume loss that occurs with age and can last up to one year. Results are noted immediately but followed by some potential swelling and bruising. It fully settles in 2 weeks time. As an experienced injector, she said this is not the fix for everyone with tear troughs or volume loss under the eyes. Assessment of the area by a well trained eye is critical in addition to the injections themselves to have happy clients long term.

Alissa also suggests PRP or platelet rich plasma around the eyes. This is where one’s blood is used to stimulate tissue regeneration and can be a great alternative for folks who are poor filler candidates. “This PRP is a part of my regenerative aesthetic medicine trademark with a patent pending technique with amnion allografts. “
