Pinehurst Amateur Golf Championship

It's been 11 years since the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship was hosted at Pinehurst, but from August 12-18, 2019, the best amateur golfers in America will again descend upon the historic course for the 119th edition of the prestigious tournament. It will mark the third time Pinehurst has hosted the Amateur Championship in its history, with 2008 and 1962 marking the other host years, and it will mark a joyous homecoming to North Carolina's most notable course as the next amateur champion is crowned.
Since Pinehurst opened in 1907, it's been an adamant supporter of amateur golf. In addition to the numerous notable tournaments the course has held in the past, including the 2014 Men's and Women's U.S. Opens, Pinehurst also hosts an annual North & South Amateur Championship, the longest running consecutive amateur tournament. In fact, since 1989, Pinehurst has hosted 10 United States Golf Association (USGA) championship events. It's the most of any other golf course in America during this time span, and the course is continuing to hold major events in the future. It's scheduled to host the 2024 U.S. Open, its next major event after the forthcoming Amateur Championship.
Festivities for the 2019 U.S. Amateur Open will begin on August 9 with player registration. Practice rounds are scheduled for the following two days, and official championship stroke play will begin on August 12. The first three rounds of Match Play will take place August 14-15, and the match play quarterfinals, semifinals and championship round will take place August 16, 17 and 18, respectively. Tickets are available now.
About the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship
Phil Mickelson. Jack Nicklaus. Bob Jones. Tiger Woods. Arnold Palmer. Mark O'Meara. Craig Stadler.
Those are just a few of the notable golfers that have won U.S. Amateur Championships prior to embarking on successful careers on the PGA Tour - and the next big star-in-the-making could very well be crowned this August in Pinehurst.
As we noted, the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship pits the world's best non-pro golfers against each other. It's open to amateurs with a Handicap Index of 2.4 or less, and it's widely regarded as the jewel of all other amateur tournaments. It's also the most tenured tournament hosted by the USGA.
About the Pinehurst, Sandhills Area
The Pinehurst and Sandhills area is about more than just the birthplace of golf in America. Yes, there's the Pinehurst Resort, which features seven courses - including the infamous Course No. 2 which has hosted, and will continue to host, the U.S. Amateur Championship and other PGA and LPGA events - but the area is also rich in military history, equestrian activities, outdoor activities, art and more fun for the entire family.
While people come for the golf, they stay to check out the nearby Fort Bragg, North Carolina Veterans Park, Halifax and more. There's racing tracks, a railroad tour, hiking and camping, and plenty of art galleries to see on the way. And with year-round nice weather, the area is always a premiere destination - whether you're coming to golf, to take in a golf tournament or something else.
Don’t underestimate the food and wine scene in Pinehurst. There is defiantly no shortage on fabulous food and farm to table restaurants to try. Whether you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion or you’re in town for lunch at the Pinehurst resort, you will be sure to find the perfect location.

So who will follow 2008 U.S. Amateur Champion Danny Lee this August in Pinehurst? Find out when the most prestigious amateur golf tournament returns to the birthplace of American golf this August.
