NAVY YARD CHARLESTON

Where Heritage Meets Design

A century ago, the Navy Yard was a world of iron and industry — shipbuilders, rivets, and the hum of the Cooper River. Today, that same stretch of shoreline is being reimagined as Charleston’s most exciting new design destination. Opening this fall, the Charleston Design District will anchor the 85-acre redevelopment, transforming the storied Storehouses Eight and Nine into a curated collective of showrooms, studios, and creative spaces.

Led by Jamestown, in collaboration with Weaver Capital Partners and WECCO Development, the revival blends history with vision: weathered brick, steel beams, and arched windows now frame light-filled interiors that will soon house design powerhouses like Kravet, Schumacher, and Textures. A rooftop restaurant from Indigo Road Hospitality will crown the space, overlooking the river and a new courtyard where creativity and conversation will flow as easily as the tide.

Beyond the showrooms, Navy Yard Charleston is shaping into a full neighborhood ofcraft and culture, complete with creative offices, residences, and riverside greenways that invite a slower, more intentional way of living. It’s industrial heritage with soul, transformed into a new kind of Lowcountry landmark, one that celebrates design, preservation, and the beauty of reinvention.

films flicker above. Even the streetside window has its own charm, serving espresso, gelato, and boozy pops to passersby.

The menu is bright and coastal — handmade pastas, vibrant crudi, and simple, beautiful dishes that taste like summer in Positano. A sip of limoncello, a plate of clam linguine, and suddenly Charleston feels a little more Italian.
